PROMETHEUS CLASS
SEMI-SUBMERSIBLE ATTACK AIRCRAFT CARRIER (2009)

Background info provided by the MACROSS ONLINE COMPENDIUM
BACKGROUND
Since their inception Aircraft Carriers have ruled the sea's. The Prometheus Class Semi-Submersible Attack Aircraft Carrier is no exception. The CVS-101 Prometheus, the first of this class had its keel laid down June 18th 2003, was commisioned December of 2005, and launched 21st September 2007. Utilising the new technology derived from the investigations of the SDF-1 the Prometheus was designed with much greater tolerance and capability than any previous Aircraft Carrier. The Prometheus featured not only a stronger and more resistant hull, but the ability to semi-submerge thus creating a lower target profile for enemy radar.
Its ability to withstand the pressures of the deep would be an immense boon for it on February 7th 2009 when the SDF-1, South Ataria Island, Daedalus and Prometheus Vessels were folded to near Pluto. With the ship sealed the crew managed to survive the unexpected arrival in deep space. Leaving the ship behind was not an option for the crew of the SDF-1, and through some ingenious engineering the Prometheus was attached to the SDF-1 Macross, becoming one of two arms for the ship in its Storm Attacker Mode.
With the end of Space War II, the Prometheus was removed from the SDF-1, along with the Daedalus, and two ARMD Platforms were instead attached in replacement. The Prometheus, after an overhaul was returned to its UN Navy duties of patrolling the sea's. With many more Prometheus Carriers being manufactured to assist it, on a number of early UNG Colonies. Despite production ceasing in the early part of the 20's, many Prometheus Class Attack Aircraft Carriers are still in service, both on Earth and on other Colony Worlds. As yet there are no plans to replace them, and the UN Navy is happy with the ships. What happens to the Prometheus Class of Carriers in the future remains to be seen, but for the time being they are still a staple part of the UN Navy.

NOTES:
- Depleting the MDC of the main body will put the Carrier out of commission.
All internal systems will shut down, including life support. The ship itself will be an unsalvageable sinking wreck.
- Destroying the command tower will instantly kill the command staff and
deprive the ship of all forms of long range communications, radar and
targeting. The range and targeting capabilities of the secondary systems are
equal to that of a VF-1
Valkyrie. The ship can still operate, but is at -3 on initiative, -3 to
strike, and number of attacks per melee of the weapon systems are reduced by
half. Destroying the main sensory array behind the command tower will have the
same effect, but the command staff will not be killed instantly.
- Destroying the foredeck or the flight decks will greatly impair the
carrier's ability to deploy and recover aircraft. Under normal operations the
carrier can launch or recover up to 12 VFs per turn. If the foredeck is
destroyed this number drops to 6, and each flight deck destroyed reduces this
number by 3. If both the foredeck and the flight decks are destroyed the
carrier can only launch or recover one aircraft every other turn.
- Depleting the MDC of the main propellers will force the ship to rely on its
secondary propellers. Depleting the MDC of the main propellers AND secondary propellers
will leave the ship adrift at sea.
SPEEDS:
- Speed(Surface): 35+ Knots
Speed(Semi-Submerged): 16 Knots
- Maximum Range: Unlimited (estimated 30 year life span)
STATISTICAL DATA:
- Length: 512 metres
Weight: 456,000 tons (Standard) / 511,280 tons (Full Load)
- Main Drive:
- Nuclear; 4 pressurised water reactors; 8 turbines giving 520,000+ horsepower
- Radar System: Standard
WEAPON SYSTEMS:
- FALCON SPRINT MISSILE LAUNCHERS (3): The UN Forces-NATO Falcon Sprint Missile System is a Long Range Missile launcher system designed to take out threats to the carrier from great distances. Although the Carrier normally relies on its ship borne craft, such as the Variable Fighters for defence, it also requires ship-board weapons such as the Falcon Sprint Missile System to take out targets before they get to close. It is also suited for taking out enemy ships as well, with the missiles designed to skim the waves like the Exocet missile so as to avoid detection by the targets radar.
- PRIMARY PURPOSE: Anti-Aircraft
- SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-Warship
- MISSILE TYPES: Any type of UN Spacy Medium
Range Missile can be used. Smart missiles are commonly used to avoid
hitting friendly aircraft.
- RANGE: Varies, typically 1200 miles (1928km)
- SPEED: Varies, typically 2010mph (3228kmph).
- DAMAGE: Varies, typically 4D6x10 M.D.
- BLAST RADIUS: Varies, typically 50 feet.
- RATE OF FIRE: Volleys of 2, 4, missiles per launcher.
- PAYLOAD: Each launcher holds 4 missiles. Once the missiles are
expended the launcher is reloaded within 1 round via an automated system.
The reload system holds 40 missiles per launcher.
- PHALANX MISSILE LAUNCHERS (4): Designed to protect against close range threats, usually with saturation missile attacks the Phalanx missile launchers are capable of attacking sea, air and land targets. They are especially good at defending against fast moving enemy aircraft and high speed boats as the missiles are highly manouverable.
- PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assault
- SECONDARY PURPOSE: Defence
- MISSILES TYPE: Short-range self-guided missiles (Warhead varies)
- RANGE: By Warhead type
- DAMAGE: By Warhead type
- RATE OF FIRE: Volleys of 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 (per launcher)
- PAYLOAD: 20 missiles per launcher, with 10 reloads per launcher
- 20MM VULCAN PHALANX CIWS (4): As a final line of defense the Prometheus Carriers are armed with 4 automated cannons, part of the Close In Weapon System (CIWS). These 6 barrelled high speed firing weapons are designed to take out close in threats to the carrier, primarily enemy aircraft that have slipped through the defence net. After Space War II these Vulcans would be replaced with Laser Phalanx turrets providing the exact same firepower, range and effectiveness without a dependancy on ammunition as the Laser Phalanx turrets run straight from the Nuclear Power reactors.
- PRIMARY PURPOSE: Anti-Missile
- SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-Aircraft
- RANGE: 5 miles (8 km)
- DAMAGE: 1D6x20 M.D. per burst
- RATE OF FIRE: Equal to the controller's number of hand-to-hand
attacks. If set on automatic each cannon/laser turret can fire up to 4 shots per
round. Vulcan Cannons fire 20 rounds per burst
- PAYLOAD: 500 rounds Vulcan Cannon. Laser turret replacements have Unlimited payload.
- NOTE: The cannons/turrets can be set on automatic during combat, during
which time they have a +3 to strike due to their advanced tracking systems.
The lasers tracking systems will target incoming missiles first and
attacking mecha/aircraft second.
SYSTEMS OF NOTE:
- LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS: The Prometheus Class Carriers have sufficient life
support to provide breathable air and comfortable temperatures for 2,500
people for up to 30 years (air is recycled). In an emergency the life support
system can support up to 4,000 people at one time, though living conditions
onboard will get extremely cramped at that point. The carrier also holds
sufficient food and water to support 2,200 people for up to 6 months.
- LONG-RANGE LASER/SATELLITE RELAY COMMUNICATIONS: The impressive
communications array of the carrier can communicate with up to 1,000
craft simultaneously at ranges of up to 900 miles (1,440 km). This range can
be boosted indefinitely by using satellites or other spacecraft as to relay
communications.
- LONG-RANGE RADAR: The radar array of the carrier is equally
as impressive as the communication system, and can track and identify up to
2,000 craft simultaneously. The radar system has a 2,000 mile/3,200 km range.
- PROPELLERS: Designed for both surface and sub-surface sea use the main propellers and secondary propellers can propel the immense carrier through the water at an impressive speed for a vessel of its size..
MECHA COMPLEMENT (STANDARD):
VF-1 Valkyrie: 240 (20 Squadrons) on active status. An additional 5
squadrons (60 Valkyries) are stored in holding bays and can be readied
within 2D6 hours.
