BACKGROUND

The H-60 Black Hawk family serves as the primary front line, rotary-wing aircraft for all branches of the United States military. It performs admirably in a variety of missions including; air mobile and air assault transport, air cavalry, vertical insertion, replenishment, and casualty evacuation. In addition, modified Black Hawks operate as command and control, electronic warfare, naval warfare, and special operations platforms.

First deployed in 1980, the Black Hawk's advanced technology allows for easy field maintenance and great combat survivability, as well as offering tremendous operational capability. Since its adoption, it has seen increases in power, armor, avionics and armaments options until today it is truly an impressive multi-mission weapons system. Thousands of Black Hawks have been produced in well over a dozen major operational variants and are in use with no less than 10 national militaries. The platforms are scheduled to be in active service with the US at least until 2030. The Helicopter is also available as a less advanced civilian version, the S-70C. This craft is available in various models to the international market, and is in widespread commercial, industrial, and law-enforcement duty as well.
